San Jose International Airport is the second largest airport in the San Francisco Bay Area, providing unique opportunities to fly to long-haul destinations such as Tokyo, Beijing and London. I have to, now, narrow down which one(s).Located in the heart of the city of San Jose, Norman Y. Something is going on with my airports/scenery. Note: I flew today’s Community Fly-In Friday with the beta and all my add-ons installed (including Community folder content) minus all my airports and I had no CTDs or issues during the 2 hours of the flight. With my Marketplace airports installed, I got a CTD on the very first aircraft I loaded into – BAe 146-100 at KOAK (3rd party). ![]() Again, the purpose being to drastically reduce the quantity of OneStore content. I then copied all my Marketplace purchased content to this new OneStore directory minus all Deluxe, Premium, WUs, CUs, Top Gun and Red Bull Bullseye Landing content. I freshly redownloaded only the Base Sim contents. ![]() Ok, I just got through doing this and I still get the CTD. If they don’t then we can probably surmise the issue is the quantity of items in the OneStore folder. Then I’m going to add all my OneStore purchases and see if the CTDs do not happen. I’ll leave out all the Deluxe, Premium, WUs, CUs, etc. I’m going to set aside my OneStore folder and only download the base sim’s content to a new folder. To the OneStore folder, I’ve added back //42 Campout and ORBX meshes.Īt this stage, I’ve essentially re-added all my add-ons minus my 3rd party airports and I have stability. I’ve added back to the Community folder FSLTL, a couple of free liveries, Navigraph 3000/5000 avionics add-on, Navigraph charts, NeoFly add-ons, Volanta. I’ve added back in my Marketplace livery packs, Zinertek, LVFR North America vehicles, various Seafront Simulations sea traffic and I’ve added back Navigraph to my Community folder and the sim is remaining stable. More testing is needed to narrow down which one of these is the cause. It seems totally odd to me that the handcrafted airports hundreds to thousands of miles away would cause the issue. What is really, really, odd about this is that I’d get the crash at rural autogen airports. It is looking like one or more of the airports I have are causing the issue, that or the UK2000 Common Library that is required for a couple of them. That is the most stable I’ve had the sim other than stripped down. 4 of those airports were MS/Asobo handcrafted and one was an autogen. I’ve been able to load into 5 different complex airplanes at 5 different airports. With my latest test, I’ve removed all my Marketplace airport purchases and I’m not seeing the crash anymore. I have tried several 1st and 3rd party airports: KSFO, KATL, IniBuilds KJFK & EGLL, and Aerosoft Brussels. Why, then, am I seeing two static aircraft, incidentally, with the Southwest livery I chose for the 737, in the background? If static aircraft can still spawn regardless of my settings, then that would maybe be a reason that my 3rd party livery packs are, possibly, causing the issue. I’ve got Ground Aircraft Density set to Zero and I’ve got Aircraft Traffic Type set to OFF. However, what is really confusing to me is this screenshot. I was able to load into the 737 at KSJC (3rd party airport) without a CTD, at least on one load (it had immediately crashed after clicking when I had all the livery packs installed). My tests with default sim aircraft have all been with the default livery, too, and they crash.ĮDIT: Okay, I’ve stripped out all my livery packs save for any liveries that were included with Microsoft add-on aircraft (Junkers Ju 52, ATR, AN-2, etc.) and the I’ve kept the livery folders for the two PMDG aircraft I have (DC-6 & 737-700). That is actually very surprising to me, especially since I do not have any static aircraft or live/AI traffic turned on, so it isn’t like the sim would be trying to load a problematic model/livery at an airport in the background. The issue lies in the aircraft, liveries and/or airports. I’ve only installed my Marketplace aircraft, liveries and airports, which I’ve added to the Deluxe, Premium, WUs, CUs, Top Gun and Bullseye Landing content, which I’ve narrowed all down as stable. Well, in my case, it is absolutely not related to any “global” type add-on. ![]() The subscription fee is charged to your iTunes account at confirmation of purchase. ![]() Subscriptions auto-renew at the cost of the chosen package, unless canceled 24-hours in advance prior to the end of the current period. It's even worse when the creator is long dead, but that's a story for a different time. I think it makes more sense to pay the artist to create more of the things that I like rather than paying for a copy (that cost a cent to create) of something they made 20 years ago. I'm not sure if that would also be better for artistic creations, but considering that the service model also seems to work well for Youtube donations (and early access video games) it might work. At least for software, it makes a lot more sense to market the service of creating the software, in my opinion. You just get to use it, and even there you just get to use it exactly how the author wants you to use it. You pay money money for this thing, which doesn't even seem to have any value on its own because value is usually defined by scarcity - this thing is just made scarce artificially - and you don't even get to own it. And not just is it abstract and hard to understand, it also feels unfair. For every other product, you buy it to obtain ownership, but in the case of software you buy it to obtain a license, which is really abstract with most licenses being incomprehensible for most end-users. How can something that's more easily multiplied than water be considered a product? It gets even more confusing when you consider ownership. And of course people don't want to throw money at a company that thinks they can milk infinite cash out of a product that they can duplicate infinitely, who would? Couple that with the fact that piracy from those who couldn't afford to pay for the product anyways doesn't actually cause any loss, and it's obvious that the analogy doesn't make sense. And it's not like we need to support the creators so they can make car2. ![]() Of course people would download cars if we could clone them for free with the click of a button. "Don't steal", "you wouldn't download a car" those messages don't exactly make sense when it comes to digital products. You think "this movie/this video game/this software can be copied over a thousand times in a matter of seconds, so downloading a pirated copy isn't going to hurt anyone", but you don't think "by buying this copy, I'm going to support its creators who can then go on to improve it or make something else that I'll like." And that's probably where the anti-piracy messages go wrong. With traditional marketing, there's a disconnect between the product and the work. That you're enabling them to continue making what you like. So now it's an issue of branding and advertising, I think.Īnd maybe, the reason why SirCmpwn, Krita, Blender (well, that one's a bit of a special case), and the several Youtube channels that are doing fine on Patreon donations is that they emphasize that you're paying them for the work they're doing and not for the product. Donations or subscriptions would work a bit better since users are now paying you to work on improving the software and producing updates (which a simple fork can't do) rather than for the work you've already done (which can be easily duplicated, open source or not), but that won't help if people think that the fork is the official product. So it seems like the creator is less concerned about users not paying him and more about someone making a fork that users can get for free (or perhaps even worse: said forker selling the fork.) And in that case, there's unfortunately not much you can do. Perhaps Aseprite is too niche in comparison to Krita, but then you can still get Aseprite for free since the code is free on Github, you just have to compile it yourself. It certainly used to be true, but I'm not sure if that's still the case. I'm not sure if it's the community or the fact that he works on a bunch of different projects, but given that Krita was able to raise $38,579, we should perhaps re-evaluate the preconception that the open source community (in this case the artist community inside the open source community) is opposed to paying. That's not really that much, but it is surprisingly much for a single open source dev. However, the sway creator (SirCmpwn) is doing surprisingly well having received $5,480 for his sway crowdfund and getting over $500 per month in donations if my math is correct. ![]() Canvas, by the way, salutes the fact that the surface on which you place the image, the textural undercoat, if you will, also has an effect. The upper right also has tabs that when clicked allow you to change color, background, and something called canvas, all of which have options that allow you to make even more variations. Or, you can just go to the right side and use a drop-down menu to select the effect, which then also shows the options. Note that there are also User Settings where you can save your personal combinations for possible use on other images. Choose one here, such as Oil Paint, and the right side is immediately populated with the variations for that setting, sliders that let you modify the image to taste. The left-side panel shows what the company dubs “Factory” settings. The workspace is divided into left and right panels. Once you choose the Alien Skin Snap Art 3 Filter (Photoshop) or Photo>Edit In (Lightroom) option this workspace immediately launches with the chosen image. Rather than talk my way through the many features and options in the software I thought it best to simply show you some sample images and discuss the workflow on each. And Alien Skin assures us that this is a nondestructive editing workflow, so you can experiment to your heart’s content. ![]() Add to this the fact that the final image is created as a Layer that you can later modify through opacity and all the other controls available in the host programs and there’s a good bet that the same image worked on by different photographers would not look alike. There are numerous sliders and tabs for color controls, detail masking effects, brush stroke and width, and more. While getting quick effects through the numerous presets, including oil, pastel, cartoon, line drawing (pencil), impasto, watercolor, and more is fun and easy, the options available are what allow you to personalize each image. Photoshop CS4 and CS5 and Lightroom 3 all open the same Snap Art 3 workspace. You can also check and uncheck the Stack command, depending on how you want to see the image in the Library-choose Stack and you can easily unstack the image later, or just have it sit side by side in the normal Library (unstacked) view. When Lightroom asks you how to edit the photo, the company recommends you choose “Edit a Copy with Lightroom Adjustments.” This will tell Lightroom to make a copy of the image for Snap Art. You can also right click on the image and select Edit In>Snap Art 3. To launch Snap Art from an image in Lightroom you first select the image (or multiple images for batch processing), and select Photo>Edit In>Snap Art 3. ![]() We can all need a big screen, while - ahem - editing/inspecting/trimming/moving/checking etc on the go, and although a hotel room TV is not the best in the world, it’s big.
